Apostle Highlands Golf Course MapCOURSE INFORMATION

The par 72 course has enormous greens, many in excess of 100 feet in width. Be prepared to watch your opponent’s three-putt.

Straight off the tee is mandatory, you don’t have to be a big hitter to score well, but you have to keep the ball in play. Many of the holes are tree-lined with trouble lurking behind almost every green if your approach is long.

Scenery particularly on No. 3 is breathtaking. No. 1 is the signature hole, as it features a miniature model of Lake Superior, built to scale, near the tee boxes.

Length is 6,332 from the blue tees, 5,887 from the whites, and 5,127 from the reds. Water comes into play on 8 holes. Both the fairways and greens are heavily contoured. There will be some uphill and side hill lies in the fairway.

YARDAGE TIPS

Hole Par Tip Photo

1

5 Tee off over “Lake Superior” from blue and white tees. Slight dogleg right keep tee shot and second on left side of fairway to avoid a large tree on the right. (524 blue, 475 white, 408 red)
2 4 Two tall trees on the left guard a long shot – a must carry or go safely down the middle – your option. Best option is left center of fairway for your approach. (335, 310, 293)
3 4 Most Photographed Hole: Long off tee gives you a downhill second. Most hit from the flat and have a blind approach to a green that slopes away with two large burms guarding the green. (383, 370, 295)
4 3 Severely undulated green sloping from back to front. Stay below the hole. (193,187,142)
5 4 Downhill dogleg right avoid going right off tee. Mounds on left and right side of green require an accurate approach. (417 370, 325)
6 4 Mounds of left and right all the way to the green – anywhere in fairway is perfect. Pond on right does not come into play. (445, 437 or 392, 325)
7 5 Uphill dogleg right. Pond on right comes into play off tee if you stray. Stay left on your second shot. Remember it’s uphill and takes more club. (482, 471, 389)
8 3 Uphill par 3 with bunkers left and right. Tiered green offers a putting challenge. (142, 134, 133)
9 4 OB right is defined by the road. Pond twenty yards from green is reachable for long hitters. Stay on left side of fairway for the best approach. (319, 312, 305)
Special Note: All greens break to the Bay, even uphill!
10 4 Dog Leg right with water on the left. Long hitters beware! A 250 yard shot is plenty. Your second shot is to an elevated green with a ridge in the middle running across. (386, 366, 340)
11 3 Large pond in front with plenty of room between water and green. (138, 112, 99)
12 5 Caution here! Short but penal. O.B. left of tee. Second shot stay left, fairway slopes right towards lateral hazard. (517, 499, 462)
13 4 Long iron or fairway wood off of tee. Stay on right side of fairway. Avoid left rough. (360, 317, 292)
14 4 Another long iron of fairway wood. Stay short of Rip Rap rock ditch in front of green. Left center of fairway provides best angle for approach. Lateral hazard behind green. (322, 298, 281)
15 4 Let the big dog eat! Club selection important on uphill approach.
( 327, 312, 260)
16 5 Accurate tee shot crucial to reach green in two. Bunker on left -30 yards from green. (498, 452, 392)
17 3 Favor right side of green. Left side has a sharp slope. (160, 138, 112)
18 4 Downhill dogleg left. Long iron or fairway wood leaves a short iron approach. Practice ranges is not O.B. (383, 353, 300)
