Starting as a 9 hole course, Apostle Highlands Golf Course opened on Saturday, July 20th 1991. Chief designer, Bill Korpela, was responsible for bringing owners Stan Stevenson, Wayne Nelson and Bob Davidson's vision to reality. Carving out the golf course from the hills above Bayfield was the responsibility of Rick Korpela and his business, Great Lakes Grading of Ashland, Wisconsin. Great Lakes Grading did an outstanding job with the design and building of the golf course.
With vision and patience, the business partners behind Apostle Highlands worked diligently to convert this truly unique setting into a remarkable golf course. The course ingeniously winds it way through forested canopy opening to unveil numerous panoramic views of Chequamegon Bay and the Apostle Islands Lakeshore.
In 1996, a second 9 holes was constructed turning Apostle Highlands Golf Course into a par 72, 18 hole golf course with a driving range, chipping area and putting green.
Apostle Highlands is a must for anyone who loves the game of golf or just loves the beautiful views.
